Energy storage, hydrogen microgrids and grid resilience technology headline the 2026 edition as the Philippines pushes its renewable energy targets
Taiwan Expo returns to the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from Sept. 17-19, bringing more than 125 Taiwanese exhibitors across technology, sustainability, agriculture, health care and lifestyle. Last year's edition generated $53.4 million in business opportunities and drew more than 10,000 buyers.
The Taiwanese companies will exhibit under a "National Team" banner, organized by Taiwan's International Trade Administration (TITA) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
"Fifty-three million dollars in business opportunities showed us how much appetite there is in this market," said James C.F. Huang, chairman of TAITRA. "This year we want to build on that through joint ventures, licensing, and local assembly, so Taiwanese and Philippine companies are building together rather than simply trading. Our measure of success is how many of these connections are still producing value for both sides five years from now."
The expo lands amid a steadily expanding trade relationship. Taiwan and the Philippines traded $6.71 billion in goods in 2024, and bilateral trade rose 8.5% in the first seven months of 2025 — enough to lift Taiwan from the Philippines' 11th-largest trading partner to its 10th.
Anchoring this year's program is the Green & Innovation Showcase, arriving as Philippine grid reliability and power costs remain pressing concerns. Taiwanese exhibitors will present battery energy storage systems and hydrogen microgrids built for island and off-grid deployment — technology with direct application for electrifying communities outside the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao grids. The pavilion also features certified green building insulation designed to cut cooling loads in Philippine commercial developments, AI-powered waste sorting systems for local governments facing rising landfill pressure, and biodegradable plant-based drinking straws produced at commercial scale.
The Agritech & Food Pavilion tackles similar constraints on the ground: yield and labor shortages in Philippine agriculture. Autonomous mobile robots cut reliance on manual field labor, while smart livestock environmental control systems target mortality losses, a recurring cost for Philippine poultry and swine operations. Taiwanese exporters will also showcase premium Phalaenopsis orchids, high-mountain teas and specialty foods seeking Philippine distribution partners.
The Intelligent Technology Pavilion covers the digital layer above the farm floor, spanning the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT), edge computing and cybersecurity. Exhibits include collaborative robots for manufacturing lines, forklift safety systems for warehouses and logistics operators, and zero-trust cybersecurity frameworks built for Philippine enterprises operating under the Data Privacy Act and facing rising ransomware exposure.
Health care and consumer biotechnology round out the Beauty & Wellness Pavilion, which pairs biotech skincare with medical supplies. Exhibitors will present functional bio-electro devices, anti-counterfeiting technology for pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging, and full lines of sterile surgical supplies and medical dressings for hospital procurement.
The Premium Lifestyle Pavilion rounds out the floor with rPET recycled fabric bags, electric vehicle safety blankets, micrometer towels, memory storage devices, smart wine aerators and precision bathroom components — most seeking Philippine distributor and retail partners.
