McDonald's is pulling G-Dragon into its lineup for a new campaign rolling out across 13 Asian markets, pairing the K-pop star's reach with a fresh gochujang butter menu and a promised collaboration with his fashion label, PEACEMINUSONE. South Korea gets first access starting Sept. 17, with other participating markets to follow.

McDonald's Korea developed the gochujang butter sauce at the heart of the campaign and is leading the broader Asian rollout. Each market will build its own menu items around the sauce, and some plan to keep the word "gochujang" in the product name rather than translate it — a small choice that keeps the campaign's Korean identity intact as it spreads across borders.

South Korea's menu leads with two chicken burgers: the McCrispy Gochujang Butter and the McSpicy Gochujang Butter, both built on their respective chicken patties with the spicy-savory sauce and Colby Jack cheese. McDonald's will also sell the gochujang butter on its own as a dipping sauce for customers who'd rather add it to something already on their tray.

The food is only half the pitch. Later this month, McDonald's Korea plans to unveil limited-edition merchandise made with PEACEMINUSONE, the fashion label and broader creative project tied to the artist. The company hasn't released details yet, so the collection's look, product lineup and how visibly McDonald's branding shows up all remain unknown for now.

That's the piece worth watching closely. G-Dragon, born Kwon Ji-yong, has spent his career working across music, fashion and visual art rather than treating them as separate lanes. PEACEMINUSONE has released clothing, accessories, pop-ups and art-driven projects, and his personal style keeps him in rotation at fashion brands and Paris Fashion Week. A McDonald's tie-in hands him a different kind of canvas — one built from packaging, food and one of the most recognizable corporate identities in the world.

There's a branding story underneath the menu, too. McDonald's Korea says it conceived and led the project locally before deploying it across Asia, rather than adapting a global campaign with a local celebrity bolted on. The gochujang butter sauce came out of the same Korean operation — a case of regional creative work traveling outward through a global brand instead of the usual reverse.

For now, McDonald's has confirmed the flavor, the face and the promise of merchandise, but not the full visual identity tying the three together. Designers may find that missing piece the most interesting part. With PEACEMINUSONE still keeping its cards close, Sept. 17 could be just the opening course of a collaboration worth tracking.
