Weeks after lifting the World Cup, Lamine Yamal is trading the pitch for the design table. The 19-year-old's 25-piece capsule collection with American Eagle drops Sept. 3, timed to the back-to-school rush and built around his own off-field style.

Yamal signed a five-year ambassador deal with American Eagle earlier this year, joining a roster that includes Sydney Sweeney and Ella Langley. This capsule is his first hands-on design project with the brand, and it reads like an extension of how he actually dresses between matches.

The lineup leans into oversized silhouettes, rugby shirts, hooded jackets, woven pants and loose denim — a mix of American casual staples and the relaxed European streetwear he's often photographed in during tunnel walks. The palette runs burgundy, earthy green, crisp white and warm tan, pulled from his Spanish roots.

The launch also lands right after Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina made Yamal the youngest player to win both the World Cup and the UEFA European Championship. American Eagle moved fast: it briefly renamed itself "Lamine's Eagles," swapped its logo for his initials, plastered Times Square with congratulatory billboards and renamed a denim cut "The 19 Jean."

The number 19 has turned into the campaign's running joke and its hook — Yamal's jersey number, his age this year, and the date in July he won the World Cup. American Eagle chief marketing officer Craig Brommers built the seasonal campaign around it, calling it "From Yamal to the mall," and describing back-to-school shopping season as the brand's "World Cup of denim."

The timing works for American Eagle, too. The brand is looking to inject energy into its lineup after a soft first quarter, and Yamal's appeal — his easygoing personality, multicultural background and pull with younger fans — extends well past soccer. Having him help shape the collection gives fans a more direct link to the player they spent the summer cheering for.

The capsule collection releases Sept. 3 at American Eagle stores and online.
