GSIS launches G-HEALTH, offers 0% interest HMO loans for government workers

The Government Service Insurance System has signed its first Memorandum of Agreement under G-HEALTH, a new financing program that lets government employees pay for HMO coverage through a zero-interest loan spread over 12 months. Maxicare Healthcare Corp. is the first Health Insurance Provider (HIP) to sign on.
The program supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to strengthen healthcare benefits for government employees and is designed to help them make full use of the Medical Allowance granted under Executive Orders 64 and 95, without having to pay a full year's premium up front.
Under the program, members will browse, compare and enroll in health insurance packages from accredited HIPs through the GSIS Touch mobile app. Once a member picks a plan, GSIS finances the premium through a 0% interest loan, payable in 12 monthly installments.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the signing with Maxicare marks the start of G-HEALTH, with several more MOAs with other HIPs already in the works to give members a wider range of health plans to choose from.
"Quality healthcare should be within every government employee's reach. Through G-HEALTH, we are making health insurance more affordable by allowing members to pay for their HMO coverage over time without interest, while maximizing the value of their Medical Allowance," Veloso said.
The program initially covers regular GSIS members, who may also enroll qualified dependents under their chosen package. GSIS will serve as program administrator and financing intermediary; participating HIPs remain responsible for delivering medical services, processing claims and administering member benefits.
About 214,000 GSIS members are expected to benefit from the initial rollout. G-HEALTH joins GSIS' growing lineup of Ginhawa programs, which channel the pension fund's social dividend into practical, member-focused support for government employees and their families.
