"Chicago" the musical will play The Theatre at Solaire in Manila from March 9-28, 2027, in a limited run announced Oct. 8, 2026. GMG Productions is staging the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit in association with Barry & Fran Weissler and David Ian.

The show returns to the stage where it began in the Philippines. When it opened in 2014, "Chicago" was the inaugural production at The Theatre at Solaire. More than a decade later, it comes back as part of the musical's 30th anniversary global tour.

The numbers behind the milestone: Broadway's longest-running American musical has played more than 11,700 performances, drawn over 35 million viewers, and reached 38 countries and more than 525 cities.

Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, spoke about bringing the Broadway classic back to Manila:

"CHICAGO is one of those extraordinary shows that never goes out of style. It's sexy, sophisticated, provocative and wickedly funny, with incredible music, iconic Bob Fosse choreography, and a story of fame, ambition, scandal, and celebrity that remains as relevant as ever.

There's something especially meaningful about bringing CHICAGO back to The Theatre at Solaire, where it inaugurated the venue in 2014. More than twelve years later, returning to the same stage feels like a real homecoming.

What I love most about CHICAGO is its edge. It's glamorous and seductive, but also dark, witty, and dangerous. From 'All That Jazz' and 'Cell Block Tango' to 'Razzle Dazzle,' it's filled with songs and moments that have become part of musical theatre history.

We're thrilled to bring it back to Manila in March 2027. Whether you saw it in 2014 or are discovering it for the first time, CHICAGO is a show that truly comes alive on stage. Come on, baby — let's razzle dazzle."

Barry Weissler, producer of "Chicago" the musical, reflected on returning to the venue where the show first opened in Manila:

"It was such an honor to be chosen as the inaugural production at the grand opening of the Theatre at Solaire back in 2014, so for CHICAGO to return to Manila next year and take that same stage again is a real homecoming.

John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse created a prescient masterpiece that is ever relevant in this moment and time. Audiences are in for a real treat. The show is as hot as ever!"

David Ian, co-producer at Crossroads Live, said the Manila stop is part of the show's anniversary tour:

"We're delighted to announce the return of CHICAGO to the Theatre at Solaire in March 2027 as part of its red hot 30th Anniversary global tour. CHICAGO truly is the triple threat musical that combines the sensational choreography of Bob Fosse, with the master melodies of John Kander and satirical lyrics of Fred Ebb. Our incredible company can't wait to perform CHICAGO in Manila, home of such an enthusiastic musical theatre audience. Get ready to paint the town!"

The story behind 'Chicago' the musical

Set in 1920s Chicago, the musical follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer on trial for murder. With help from slick lawyer Billy Flynn, she tries to turn her crime into a media spectacle, only to find she must share the spotlight with fellow inmate and nightclub star Velma Kelly.

The book is by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, the music by John Kander, and the lyrics by Ebb. The score includes "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," "Razzle Dazzle," and "Nowadays."

The original production was directed by Tony Award® winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Ann Reinking. The creative team also included John Lee Beatty, William Ivey Long, Ken Billington, and Ricke Clarke. A six-time Tony Award® winner, including Best Musical Revival, "Chicago" continues to draw audiences more than three decades after its Broadway revival.
