7UP is done playing second fiddle to lemon. After decades as a lemon-lime staple, the soda brand has reformulated its drink, redesigned its packaging, and given lime the lead flavor for the first time, with the new identity rolling out across the U.S. this month.

What's actually changing

The reformulated soda is being sold as 7UP Lime Lemon, replacing the old recipe across 7UP Regular, 7UP Zero Sugar, Cherry 7UP and Cherry 7UP Zero Sugar. Keurig Dr Pepper, which owns the brand in the U.S., says the new formula pushes lime forward while keeping the lemon notes that have defined the soda for years.

This isn't a limited-run flavor drop. It's permanent. As existing inventory sells through, the new formula will take over shelves and fountain menus, and the old recipe will get harder to find as it goes.

Why lime, why now

Keurig Dr Pepper points to younger drinkers as a driving factor. Its 2026 Beverage Trend Report found 72% of Gen Z and Gen Alpha respondents gravitated toward citrus-forward drinks, and 64% preferred stronger, more intense flavors. The numbers come from the company's own research, but they line up with why a brand willing to leave a decades-old formula alone is suddenly changing it.

A new look to match

The packaging shifted right along with the recipe. Regular 7UP now wears a cleaner green design, a vertical logo, and "Lime Lemon" spelled out more prominently on the can, with the brand's signature red dot repositioned within the new layout. Cherry 7UP moves to a burgundy treatment, and the zero-sugar lineup leans into black.

Backing it all is a campaign called Flip the Sip, running across social content, retail displays and other activations. The push is meant to make one thing clear: this is a recipe change, not just a can redesign.
